HVAC & Control Systems Upgrade
In 2012, Convergentz partnered with the George R. Brown Convention Center in downtown Houston to deliver a comprehensive upgrade of its Building Automation System (BAS), enhancing building performance, energy efficiency, and operational control for this major city landmark.
Project Scope & Highlights
Complete BAS Retrofit
Replaced the outdated pneumatic and early DDC systems with a web-based Tridium BAS platform.
Installed JACE network controllers and both direct and remote I/O modules for reliable system integration and remote access.
HVAC System Enhancements
- Added Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to existing Outside Air Handling Units (OAHUs) for improved airflow control and energy savings.
- Integrated critical systems—including chillers, VFDs, sub-metering, and legacy DDC controls—originally installed during the facility’s 2000 expansion.
Network & Optimization Upgrades
- Implemented a dedicated BAS Local Area Network (LAN) with Level 3 switching to support fast, secure data transmission and enhanced system stability.
- Performed chiller plant optimization to boost overall energy efficiency.
- Enhanced start/stop sequencing to reduce unnecessary runtime and lower utility costs.
- Developed custom scheduling capabilities for more efficient and flexible facility management.
Results That Deliver
By implementing an advanced Tridium-based BAS and optimizing key infrastructure, Convergentz transformed the George R. Brown Convention Center into a modern, high-performance facility equipped to meet the demands of large-scale events and evolving operational needs.
This project reflects our commitment to smart technology, seamless integration, and long-term value for Houston’s most iconic venues.
