Building Retrofit

Moody Gardens is a cornerstone of Galveston Island’s tourism, featuring the iconic Aquarium, Rainforest, and MG-3D Pyramids, originally constructed in 1993. In 2017, Convergentz was selected to lead a major HVAC controls retrofit for the Aquarium Pyramid, a facility requiring highly specialized environmental conditions.
Project Highlights:
- Full retrofit of the airside system, ensuring precise climate control across diverse exhibit zones
- Maintained tropical conditions for Caribbean and South Pacific habitats
- Upgraded the glycol chiller system to support sub-zero environments for Antarctic penguins
- Installed digital controls for all new hot and chilled water pumps
- Modernized the BAS front end with 3D graphics on the latest Trane Tracer SC platform
This project exemplifies Convergentz’s ability to balance technical complexity with environmental sensitivity. The Aquarium Pyramid may be a Texas institution, but thanks to this retrofit, its control systems are truly state-of-the-art.
