40 Years for Hunton Group

40 years for Hunton Group

Our Legacy: Building the Future Since 1981 – November 2021

Then

The Hunton Group was founded in October 1981 by Richard O. Hunton as a subsidiary of the Trane Company. Originally operating as Houston Trane with just 75 associates and three divisions—Commercial Sales, Service, and Parts—the company quickly set its sights on becoming Southeast Texas’s leading HVAC provider.

By 1984, Mr. Hunton had acquired the company, establishing it as an independent operation. Despite economic challenges in the 1980s, Hunton Group grew steadily by expanding services and investing in long-term strategies. The addition of Building Controls in 1983 and the launch of Vical Financial in 1994 marked key milestones in the company’s evolution.

Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Hunton Group expanded into residential markets, opened new headquarters, and launched new divisions including Existing Building Systems and Specialty Products. By 2006, the company had grown to over 350 employees and $250 million in sales.

Innovation continued with the formation of Hunton Energy, the launch of Convergentz (a smart building integration company), and the acquisition of Advanced Home Technologies. Hunton Group also led Houston’s first “Smart Building” retrofit at Pennzoil Plaza and completed major projects like the George R. Brown Convention Center controls upgrade.

Today, Hunton Group remains a trusted leader in HVAC and building solutions, known for its resilience, innovation, and commitment to excellence across commercial, residential, and energy sectors.

In 2018, Hunton Distribution proudly opened its third location in the Greater Houston Area—a 76,000 sq. ft. warehouse in southeast Houston. This strategic expansion enhances our ability to serve customers more efficiently and conveniently across the region.

In 2019, the company made the decision to sell its Oklahoma City office, reaffirming its commitment to focusing on the Southeast Texas market.

Hunton Group remains dedicated to being the preferred provider of efficient, sustainable indoor environmental systems and services for commercial, industrial, and residential customers. Our mission is driven by innovation, deep customer understanding, and a commitment to technical and operational excellence.

“Our ultimate goal across the Hunton Group family of companies is seamless service and 100% customer satisfaction,” says R.O. Hunton, Chairman & Founder. “We’ve structured our organization to better coordinate our expertise and resources to make our customers’ jobs easier and deliver real value.”

In recognition of this commitment, Hunton Trane and Hunton Services received the Trane Pacesetter Award in 2019, and in 2020, Hunton Group was honored with the Houston Chronicle’s Top Workplace Award for the eighth consecutive year, along with the National Top Workplace Award.

Since 2010, Convergentz has proudly contributed to the Hunton Group’s legacy of innovation and excellence in building integration and smart systems.
